Tour Hours: The winery is not open to the public.

Since its first vintage in 1992, Colgin Cellars has produced the highest quality wines from exceptional hillside vineyards in the St. Helena area of Napa Valley. Only the finest neo-classical winemaking methods are used in concert with small yields, gentle handling, attentive sorting and meticulous blending to capture the distinctive terroir characteristics of Colgin wine. These highly sought-after “first-growth” bottlings are a definitive reflection of owner Ann Colgin’s deep respect for tradition, passion, for detail and uncompromising pursuit of excellence.

Colgin Cellars currently produces four wines: Tychson Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Cariad Napa Valley Red Wine, IX Estate Napa Valley Red Wine and IX Estate Syrah. These wines are available only through mailing list and select restaurant lists. Colgin’s highly-acclaimed Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which was produced 1992-2007, may still be found on top restaurant wine lists and at auction.

The Colgin Winery is located at IX Estate, (“Number 9 Estate”) high above Lake Hennessey, on a secluded mountaintop in the Pritchard Hill area of St. Helena. Up a long and winding road that bends through oak groves and vineyards, IX Estate is nestled in steep hillsides of optimal soil and slope, embraced by a most agreeable climate. Wine connoisseur and critic Robert Parker considers IX Estate “as close to a viticultural nirvana as I’ve ever seen.” (The Wine Advocate)

The gravity-fed winery, a remarkable marriage of classic design and contemporary technology, is an extension of the vineyard’s essential character. Here the graceful lines of a Mediterranean villa and the round, barrel-like signature of the cellar integrate the winemaker’s craft with its ecology, creating a noble place that is California in spirit and timeless in character. Set against a majestic view of Napa Valley and the surrounding intimacy of its vineyards, IX Estate is a worthy extension of the Colgin mystique and an inspiring venue for the creation of wines that are the ultimate expression of faultless terrior and meticulous technique.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
