CLAVO Cellars specializes in hand-grown artisan wines that express the character and culture of Paso Robles on California’s Central Coast.

Under the guidance of veteran winegrower and winemaker Neil Roberts, CLAVO focuses on varietals that excel amid some of the region’s most notable vineyards, including Margarita Vineyard along the southernmost rim of the Paso Robles appellation.

The name CLAVO means “nail” in Spanish—a play on Neil’s name. He acquired this nickname early in his career as a viticulturist, as given to him by Mexican-American vineyard workers. It was a form of acceptance, as well as an invitation into their world. CLAVO wines are dedicated to these people and all who have inspired Neil along the way.

As a viticulturist with more than 20 years of experience, Neil is not only passionate about the craft of grape growing, but also enjoys special access to some of the finest fruit in the Paso Robles appellation.

The resulting wines are made to express the pure personality of the vineyard, as guided by Neil’s hand. These wines are offered in a spirit of approachability and enjoyment, embracing the casual elegance for which the Central Coast is renowned.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
