Chateau Laurinda was “born” in the mid ‘90’s in the Rowan County town of China Grove, NC. The passion behind our wine making however, was birthed within “Laurinda’s” father, long before that! As a young boy, owner Larry Ehlers enjoyed watching and helping his elders make wine for family, friends, and neighbors. It was here his passion began! Becoming a serious hobbyist, Larry made his homemade wines in his wife Linda’s kitchen. It didn’t take long for his “hobby” to take over the couples Park Street kitchen and to consume all the ‘free” time they had aside from their careers. Given the opportunity, Larry and Linda decided to take it to the next level, relocating to a larger space. Once known as Faggart’s Meat House, the abandoned building was perfect......and Linda got her kitchen back! But, as history tends to repeat itself, Chateau Laurinda’s success once again outgrew her China Grove property, forcing the winery to a larger location on Hwy 29, in Spencer, NC. Growing tired of the “hustle and bustle” of their surroundings, Chateau Laurinda found her home just a few miles outside of the small town of Sparta.. Still located here on the historic Reeves Property of Alleghany County, we at Chateau Laurinda continue to bring you our prized, naturally fine wines! Although many winery's and vineyards are moving further away from using fresh fruits, and closer to being mostly from kits and concentrates, we pride ourselves in being “Old Fashioned”, in standing by our long standing values. We remain committed to bringing you the best possible, most natural, NC Wines! From start to finish, every step of Chateau Laurinda’s wine making processes are done by hand.....by our hands! We do it all on site at the Sparta Winery; from fermenting, racking, bottling, corking (sometimes very much a job in itself!), sealing the capsules, and printing and putting on our own hand made labels. Sounds like a lot? It is, but our finished product makes it much worth the extra effort!

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
