In 1900, Giovanni Battista Bonacquisti emigrated from Castro dei Volsci, Italy and came to work in the coal mines near Trinidad, Colorado. The Coal Camp, Delagua, became the birthplace of my father and the site where Giovanni put an American flair on his Italian tradition of winemaking. It is in his spirit that I present the wines of Bonacquisti Wine Company. In Italian, bonacquisti literally means "good acquisition" or "good purchase". We hope you feel that our specialty blends live up to our name.
Bonacquisti Wine Company was founded in 2006 by Paul and Judi Bonacquisti after Paul was fired for saying booger on the radio at KDJM Jammin 92.5FM. How does a Disc Jockey end up in the wine business? With a family tradition, big ambition and a very loving, very understanding and very devoted wife. After years of making wine in the basement (in a bath tub), being set free from the broadcasting world inspired Paul to earn Executive Sommelier certification and pursue his dream of making wine for a living. There is life after radio.
As you read, you might get the idea that Bonacquisti Wine Company is not draped in the traditions of your typical winery. There are no rolling Tuscan hills wrapped in grape leaves, no $25 tasting fee and definitely no snobbery. We are Denver's Urban Winery located in a funky industrial condo a few doors down from Quiznos. There are no vineyards located off I-70 and Pecos and there ain't gonna be! We make wine with Colorado grown grapes from Palisade and we also use select grapes from outside the state when Colorado won't oblige us. We are a small production winery dedicated to making good wine for all to enjoy. Wine for the people.
Our labels are unique and are part of the philosophy of making wine in the city: local wine, local art. Daniel Luna is a local artist we commissioned to take our wine concepts and familial stories and put them on canvas. If you're familiar with Daniel's work then you know it is vibrant, distinctive and cosmic. The perfect combination to tell the story of the wines they represent; Bella Risa, Vinny No Neck and Delagua, CO.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
