In 1902 Nicola and Francine Bommarito immigrated to this country through Ellis Island from a small town of Terrissini, Sicily. Settled in the city of St. Louis, MO, Nicola used his skills as a carpentar to contribute to the growth of the city, Frannie opened up a grocery store and sold pasta to the neighborhood. Prohibition began and the climate of the times changed, so the family started creating wine in the basement of Grandma Bommarito's house, the " Whiskey" came later. Wine and whiskey were provided to the locals and businesses in the area. After prohibition they went back to there trade skills and continue to build many residential areas in the suburbs of St. Louis. And so the story begins,

The Bommarito Family has had a hand in developing the city of St. Louis from the early 1900's till now. Each branch of the Bommarito's has become synonymous with the city itself. Since the early 1950's our family has touched many lives in St. Louis, and we continue to support St. Louis and what it has to offer.

In 1994 The Bommarito Family, aquired 21 acres of land in the heart of Missouri Wine Country, and so it began..
In 1995, Nick and his daughter Cathleen started planting Norton grapes in the plot behind the house. In the following years, the family increased the vineyard with additional plantings of Norton, St. Vincent, Vignole, and Chambourcin and a new addition Vidal Blanc. Totalling 9.5 acres at present.

Nick started as a grape grower first and provided grapes for the local wineries in the area when needed, then in 1998 began dabbling in winemaker himself. At the age of 60 went back to school at UC Davis and completed the excelerated degree in Viticulture and Enology. Began the winery in 2000 , with an addition of the tasting room in 2003.
He has become a mascot of sorts, telling stories and entertaining guests, providing a repreive from life's stresses.
He remains the Viticulturist for the winery, and takes care of the grounds and fields just has he always has.

Cathy Bommarito-Manley, Head Winemaker/Cellar Master, is continuing the tradition from Nick. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri State University and a background in Hospitality. In 1989 began a career in the Hotel Industry in Food and Beverage and was introduced to some incredible wines early and so her love of wine began. In 1992 moved into the travel industry. She is currently getting a Masters Certification in Enology through the Vesta Program at Missouri State University. 2011 will be her 3rd year as head Winemaker and she will continue to create the traditional recipes of her father, but will surprise you with new and interesting selections as well.
Mark Bommarito, Resident Chef, has created wonderful dishes for our events in the past. He will soon head up our outside sales and wholesale division.

Rick Bommarito , has created all things metal for the operation, from Crush Stands to Shoots and parts for the machines to keep the harvest operation running as smoothly as possible..
He created a bin dumper stand and shoot for a new step in the operation in 2010, this will enhance the intensity of the wines.

Dianne Bommarito Dussold helps in the tasting room at peak times and is our customer service representative. She is currently a High School Algebra Teacher for Northwest High School.

Our business is family owned and operated, so when you have an opportunity to come out to visit there will always be a Bommarito greeting you at the door.

In the winter months, with the exception of January, a rolling fire is in the fireplace, which keeps the tasting room warm and cozy. We have enough indoor seating for 24 of our guests. There is always Nick or a family member behind the counter to either tell a story (Nick) or to teach you something new about a wine. We try to present a new wine item for our guests each year. On rare occasions, Lemoncello (winemaker Cathy's specialty) will be brought out for a tasting, the recipe comes from Sicily, and has been modified with Cathy's own special touch.

The atmosphere here is quaint and quiet. Our mission is to provide an atmosphere of relaxation and a sense of peace. Releasing you from all the daily stress that is in the world today. The winery is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and gentle breezes. The view from the patio at sunset is absolutely amazing. There is always someone toasting the sunset with a glass of Nick's award winning wine, a group of friends by their side, a story in the air and a smile on their face.

We encourage our guests to bring a picnic basket or a snack to have with your wine pairing. We are Sicilian, we love our food and feel that wine can benefit by a good cheese or sausage. Wine is meant to be savored and enhanced with a food accompaniment.

Our family's mission is to create a total experience for our customer.

For our guest to take away not only a good bottle of wine but a feeling that they are part of the family, that they are welcomed as a friend the minute they walk through our door. Good wine, good conversation, friends, family and the best of what Mother Nature has to offer in the heart of Missouri Wine Country.
