The Jackson family believes that wine and wine making should be experienced by the senses … sight, smell, and of course taste. Belle Joli’ wine delights the senses of our souls and brings excitement and pleasure to life. Our name, Belle Joli’, pays homage to the beauty and rich qualities of the Black Hills. It is here that the dream of a family-owned vineyard began to grow for the Jackson family.

Started in 2000, Belle Joli’ began with a only small acreage of grapes near Belle Fourche, South Dakota on the northern edge of the Black Hills. Belle Fourche, French for beautiful forks, is located where the rivers converge into the Belle Fourche River. It is here that the natural richness of the soil and the growth potential of the grapes were fully realized. In 2007 twenty additional acres were planted to continue the quest for a true South Dakota wine product.

Matthew Jackson, estate enologist, received his education from the Fresno State Enology Program. With the Jackson-family vision and Matthew’s education and experience the dream of creating quality wines began to be realized. Matthew’s ability to grow grapes that optimize the potential of the Black Hills soil fuels the passion for this family of wine lovers and it is with this passion that Belle Joli’ brings their creations to life.

The Jackson family has used their vision of a Black Hills vineyard and a passion for wine to create wines that are grown, harvested, and bottled in western South Dakota.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
