August Cellars is a family owned winery created in 2002 by the Clarence Schaad Family. The winery is located on land bought by Clarence Schaad in 1942 and is located on Chehalem Mountain, which is part of the new AVA Chehalem Ridge.

The farm is currently run by Clarences two surviving children, Lewis and Grace. The farm is approximately 42 acres of contiguous farm land. We have 21 acres of mature English Walnuts, 13 acres of Italian Prunes, a 13 acre Pinot Noir vineyard that is leased out and about 6 acres of woods and the winery itself which is located at the bottom of the orchards just off of Highway 99W.

The winery is managed by Lewis' two sons, Jim and Tom Schaad. Jim is the winemaker and head of the company. Tom is the facility manager co-ordinating all of the daily activities at the winery.

August Cellars produces about 2500 cases per year and is home to six other wineries: Artisanal Wine Cellars, Crowely Wines, Barking Frog, Et Fille, Laura Volkman Cellars and Toluca Lane. To learn more about our tennants please visit their websites or go to our tennant page.

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
