Apolloni Vineyards is a family-owned vineyard situated at the North end of the Willamette Valley. Our location provides a superb microclimate and suitable soil for the cultivation of premium Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc grapes. We specialize in traditional Pinot Noir and Italian-style wines.
Tradition, Italian, and Family: these are the foundation of Apolloni Vineyards and its winemaking. The label is inspired by an original piece with its origins dating back to the 16th century. It depicts the Apolloni family coat of arms, featuring a black eagle as a sign of strength, as well as the helm from the armor of the captains of Scalve. The handwriting in the background documents the origins of the coat of arms from the Milan State archive. The lettering of the name, Apolloni, is Roman, always in bold capitals. The Apolloni family’s Italian origins are from the Arezzo region in Tuscany, Italy, and has a long tradition in winemaking of over 150 years.
History and tradition have always been important and continue to be. Alfredo Apolloni, a first generation American, comes from a long line who have taken pride in retaining their family name. In each generation there has been either an Adolfo or an Alfredo, alternating by generation. Alfredo has continued the tradition by naming his son Adolfo, in honor of his late father.
Alfredo developed his passion for viticulture and winemaking in his youth, while working summers at the family vineyard and villa in Italy. The villa was located outside of Fano, a historic coastal city on the Adriatic coast, south of Venice. The family had its own vineyards and winery, as is typical of many Italian properties. Alfredo’s Italian roots have a strong influence on his winemaking style and attention to detail. The wines of Apolloni Vineyards represent the roots of Italian tradition, brought to the soil of Oregon with quality of excellence in viticulture.
The wine Alfredo makes is traditional. The whites are traditional Italian-style whites: dry, fruity, crisp, and clean. They embrace the unique flavor of Oregon’s grapes and bring it to the table. They are fermented in stainless steel and do not go through malolactic fermentation. The bottle used for the white wines is in the Italian tradition, suggestive of the wine style.
The Apolloni Pinot Noir is made in a traditional Oregon style, bringing the best of old and new world’s winemaking. Alfredo uses only French oak barrels. He manages the vineyard with care to produce perfect fruit. And with that perfect, hand-tended fruit, he can craft a supple, elegant Pinot Noir.
Alfredo and his wife Laurine purchased Apolloni Vineyards in 1999, when the 62-acre property had five acres of vineyard planted. The Apolloni’s since have developed 20 additional vineyard acres from 1999 to the present. They planted only grafted vines, predominately Dijon clones.
The vineyards are the foundation of winemaking tradition. Great fruit is the heart of great wine. To continue the tradition of family winemaking, each vineyard has been named for Apolloni children, bearing their middle names: Filippo, Olivia, and Flaminia. In time, they may choose in their turn to carry on this tradition.
