AVR A vineyard was planted in April 2003 with dormant plants. Just over 8 1/2 acres, consisting of 4 blocks, went under vine.
Year 2004 all fruit was dropped (to strengthen the stalks) and the plants trained in a head pruned, spur trained configuration. And, while about half the fruit was dropped in 2005 a small yield of about 8 tons was harvested (1.8 lbs. per plant). Four Vines winery purchased the fruit and blended the zinfandel with their flagship Biker brand in 2005 which is currently available. Our fruit was add to the 2005 Biker, Heretic and the Paso Robles Syrah
In 2006 we continued to drop fruit to strengthen the spurs and our yield was just over 12.5 tons (2.7 lbs. per plant). Again Four Vines vinified the fruit with Zinfandel allocated to "Biker" and the Syrah and Petite Sirah blended into their several Rhone style blends. The 2006 Biker scored 92 points from Wine Spectator. The 2007 Biker made the top 100 wines of 2009 from Wine Spectator.

AVR B vineyard was planted in late 2005 with green bench grafts. About 18 acres, consisting of 4 blocks, went under vine. The largest block consisted of a relatively rare Ueberroth clone of Zinfandel that was specifically designed and propagated for Alta Vista Ranch by Four Vines. Two equal blocks of Mourvedre and Grenache Noir are Tablas Creek Clones as was the smallest block of the highly desirable Tannat. Due to the late planting, 2007 will be a year in which they will begin head pruned training. All fruit will be dropped in order to strengthen the plant and 2008 should result in a small yield.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
