Alcantara is a dream venture created by Barbara Predmore, the owner and proprietor. Barbara, and her husband, Bob, started the vineyard to provide their family and partners the opportunity to live the dream of working and developing a vineyard community and winery, making wines that are comparable to the best of California and Europe.

The Alcantara Vineyard dates even before 2004, when Barbara Predmore and her husband Bob defined the Verde Valley property as the optimal location for Barbara’s dream of a world-class wine production location. Barbara had spent four years with research and diligence using the best consultants from University of Arizona and UC Davis with support from her family connection at the noted Martin-Weyrich Vineyards in Central California.

Alcantara Vineyard is now a reality. Perched on 87 acres of sloping terrain at the confluence off the Verde River and Oak Creek, the 20 acres currently planted contain 19,000 vines across the gently sloping shelves of limestone and rocky soil that define this portion of the snaking Verde River that bound the property on three sides. Included is a newly constructed Tuscan-style farmhouse that serves as the tasting room for hosting the many friends and guests from around the globe that visit the vineyard and tasting room.

The developing vision of Alcantara is a land covered with vineyards, in the center of a tourist triangle leading to Arizona’s North Country from Phoenix for those visiting Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon. The future ambiance of the vineyard has plans to be accented by an attractive winery, tasting room, café bistro, information center, and a Bed and Breakfast Inn with Restaurant. Visitors and local residents will come to taste and purchase a variety of Arizona wines, tour the winery, purchase mementos at the shop, stop for a bite to eat at the bistro café while overlooking the vineyard, listen to entertainment, or stop at the on-site Farmer’s market. Some will come to visit the on-site Festivals, others to book the location for those special events.

This is Alcantara - the place - the blend of nature with family, fun, and the peaceful enjoyment of life and wines at the confluence of Arizona’s Oak Creek and Verde River. A hidden treasure in central Arizona, the Verde Valley is a wonder of beauty, serenity and archeological adventures – enjoyed by tourists and locals alike.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
