From the Famille Gassier, Château de Nages, Butinages 2019 is an amazing value Rhone red under $17 by an amazing producer. The Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes for this vintage were sourced from the Costières de Nîmes. Fragrant with crushed black raspberry fruit, earthy florals, wild herbs and pepper spice flavours on the palate, rich, full-bodied and beautifully balanced overall. Totally hedonistic. ButiNAGES means “gather nectar” and that it does.

Red food pairings: steaks from the grill, tourtiere ribs, chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Organic blended red wine from Gassier. Aromas of blackberry and blueberry, with a hint of black cherry juice. Very dark fruit forward on the nose with touches of cocoa bean. Flavours reveal mouthwatering red plum, dark plum, all the plums! Following with fresh thyme, cherry and a bevy of burgeoning leafy notes. Its bright and juicy, but not too sweet even though it leads with the fruit. A great pairing for roasted red pepper sauce and portobello mushroom burgers. - tasted January 2022
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lovely wine from the South of France, the Buti Nages 2019, by Famille Gassier, offers warms aromas of blackberry, black currant, black pepper, leather, chocolate milk, spice and cedar. Blended from 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre, the wine shows a medium body, great fruit-forward taste and a savoury finish. Palate: cherry, blueberry, lavender, tobacco leaf, allspice, vanilla and cedar. Tasty wine by Chateau de Nages. Enjoy.
