Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This is a well crafted 100% Cab Franc made using appassimento method. It has a complex nose of mint, chocolate, dried fruit, also showing a bit cedar and eucalyptus. It is rich with good dried fruit concentration on the palate. All nicely integrated at this point with solid, long finish. Serve with braised short ribs. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A big 100% Cabernet Franc wine from Kew Vineyards located in the Niagara area in Beamsville!

Very dry at 3 g/l of sugar and the alcohol comes in hot at 16% Given the age, there is an evident garnet brown tinged rim. Made in the appassimento method the grapes were dried before fermenting. The wine spent some extra time in neutral oak as well as longer bottle aging and wasn't released until 5 years after harvest.

Aromas of very ripe blackberry and cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco and cloves. The tannins were still a bit grippy on the palate and the acidity still very evident. Flavours of more ripe dark fruit and some black pepper. The pairing was some bbq'd ribs which held up to the body and the sauce paired nicely with the fruit and tertiary flavours of the wine.

Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

A full-bodied, bold Cabernet Franc varietal from Beamsville Bench, Niagara. Presents garnet in the glass with an orange-melon miniscus. With the grapes dried before fermentation, the aromas and palate are concentrated with cherry and plum. Oak ageing evident. Well-balanced, with medium acidity and tannins and a dry, peppery finish. Serve with roast meats or baked meat casseroles.
From the Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment wine region, Kew Vineyards Estate Heritage 2013 is produced from 100% Cabernet Franc and done in the appassimento method, dried grapes added to the fresh wine to give richness, body and depth to the wine. The 2013 vintage is smooth and rich with ripe raspberry compote, spiced plum, dried herb, mocha flavours on the palate. So good now. Pair with a veal Porterhouse. - Community Wine Reviews
