Franciscan 2015 is a medium-plus-bodied cool-climate Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California. The grapes for this robust wine are grown in one of Napa Valley's coolest vineyards, and the wine is aged for 20 months in small oak barrels. Aromas of black fruit, violets, cigar box and smoke. Decant one hour and pair with a rare steak or cellar for three years. Great cellaring candidate that will improve with time.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: rare prime rib, gourmet burgers, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Matt's review: A blend of 81% Cabernet, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec from Napa Valley's renowned Oakville, Rutherford, and Oak Knoll District regions. A textbook Napa Cab nose, with dark plum, black currant, graphite, cedar hedge, sous-bois, and pepper showing the complexity and elegance of this big wine. The palate shows youthful dark fruit, black cherry, dark chocolate, pepper, and cedar, with tart fruit and youthful tannins persisting on the finish. Decant a few hours and serve with grilled peppercorn steak. Tasted April 2019. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Lots of flavour, and makes me want to go back TO California! Aromas of blackberry, currant, eucalyptus, leather and smoke. Full bodied with firm tannins that soften with an hour of decanting. Nice balance of ripe fruit, leather and herbaceous notes on the palate with a lengthy finish. Enjoy with a grilled steak or prime rib.
Still tight with grippy tannins, but there are nice aromas of black currant, spice cedar brush and smoky oak on the nose on Fransican 2015. On the palate black currant, cigar box, and flinty flavours. Will improve with age. Cellar for three years from this medium-plus-bodied Cab from the Napa Valley mellow, marry and show its best. - Community Wine Reviews
