A magnificent Pinot Noir from Burgundy with Old World classic styling and structure. Jean-Marc Pavelot produces this silky red wine in the heart of the Côte de Beaune region near the village of Savigny-les-Beaune. The grapes are grown in the prestigious Gravains vineyard to create this premier cru wine, as the vines are planted with an ideal orientation on the slope. Premier Cru is second only to Grand Cru in the Burgundian classification of quality. This is a remarkable wine, worth every penny.

Food pairings: roasted pork loin, coq au vin, prime rib, planked salmon on the grill.

Reviews and Ratings

Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 78/100 with the following review:

Priya: Am I drinking cotton candy? Because that’s what this smells like! Oh what a disappointment – it certainly isn’t cotton candy, not even a faint memory of sweetness here. Tastes a bit watered down, I’m not a fan. Pass! 74 pts

Alex: I’ll pass too Priya but the nose is lovely and almost worth experiencing…were this not a typical high-priced Burgundy! Candied sour cherry, sweat, nutmeg, orange creamsicle and new leather grace the nostrils. Much lighter in concentration on palate than nose, candied cherry and nutmeg – but a bit dilute and non-descript. Decent if it were $35, but again another over-priced Burg… 83 pts
This premier cru Burgundian Pinot Noir is produced by Jean-Marc Pavelot. The grapes are grown in a single-hectare plot of old vines that are about 80 years old. The 2011 vintage of the Savignyles-Beaune 1er Cru Les Gravains is juicy, generous and expressive. - Community Wine Reviews
