From the Saint-Émilion wine region in Bordeaux, Château Faugères Grand Cru Classé 2018 is dry, full-bodied and elegant 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon red wine blend with silky tannins. Rich and generous on the palate with ripe blueberry, blackberry, red currant and crushed raspberry flavours, it finishes with subtle spicy cedar brush notes supple and deliciously long on the palate. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, 50% new and one-year-old barrels. Tannins are fresh and structured and this Grand Cru Classé is good now, but will also benefit from some cellar time to mellow tannins. Try after 2024 or cellar to 2038.

Food pairings: beef tenderloin, bacon wrapped Chateaubriand, slow-braised beef ribs.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
