Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Around lake Garda you will find the uber popular Valpolicella; an Italian wine region whose obscure practices and varietals are now familiar essentials on restaurant wine lists. This wine is a Ripasso built with Corvina and Rondinella.
It has a little bit of age (6 years at the time of tasting) and it is showing some delightfully well balanced flavours of maturity and freshness.
The colour is a deep garnet, showing some change of colour.
Delicate and soft aromas of pot pourri, cinnamon stick, craisin, raspberry, and thyme are followed by more brooding earth and coffee aromas that are deeply compelling.
Flavourwise, it is high in alcohol (as Ripasso tends to be), but it carries it well and showcases the red and black fruit of Corvina very well.
The grapes for Ripassos are 're-passed' over the grape accretions of Amarone wines. This restarts fermentation and adds complexity and character.
This is essentially a great example of Ripasso for someone to discover or to introduce the style to a newcomer to Valpolicella. Excellent value, here.
The name comes from an older form of Italian, translating to 'the valley of the cellars.' Their wines are almost always built around Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, Corvinone (also the endangered Osseleta, which is being replanted).
Put this beauty with some game, tortellini, or genoa salami.
Ca' Del Monte Classico (2011) is a medium-bodied Valpolicella Ripasso from the Veneto wine region in Italy. Brothers, Umberto and Giuseppe Zanconte, oversee winery operations and the property has been in the family for several generation. - Community Wine Reviews
