Butterscotch toffee love in this Californian classic Chardonnay! Some apple and peach wrapped lovingly in caramel form generous oak aging. Full-throttle Chardonnay for lovers of the genre. This Californian Chardonnay is a heavy-hitter: full-bodied, layered and rich. Toasty oak, smoke, vanillin, caramel and baked peach pie from generous oak aging. Pair with quail or Cornish hen.

Chardonnay food pairings: fish cakes with a rhubarb relish.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Honey, butterscotch, and smoke on the nose with a buttery pineapple almond crisp flavor on the palate. This wine would pair well with roast chicken, lobster or fettuccini alfredo.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The 2013 private reserve is 100% Napa Chardonnay. 14.7% ABV and brilliant pale gold in the bowl. This wine calls you in from a distance with intense aromatics or buttered gourmet popcorn, vanilla, salted caramel, Asian pear, and a hint of orange blossom. This wine is very well integrated and well-balanced. This wine is a fine example of thorough malolactic fermentation and barrel-aging of each component lot for a minimum 9 months before primary blending. Wonderfully smooth on the palate, this Chardonnay has layers of complexity with a long finish and intense persistence of butter, minerality, Asian pear and orange blossom. Pairs well with baked crab-stuffed Wild Atlantic Salmon or pan-seared butter basted jumbo sea scallops or grilled lobster tails. Enjoy this wine through 2015-2020. Exceptional value for quality and a wonderful choice for festive occasions. This Californian gem is designed to deliver and is made to meet the exceptional standards of a connoisseur and is equally as approachable to those who just like to experiment.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Quite remarkable! This is a superb example of a complex, well structured and well balanced California Chardonnay. Aromas are pronounced including notes of buttered toast, butterscotch, apple, citrus zest, baking spice and sweetened nuts (pralines). The palate is off-dry with a balance acidity (medium +) and ripe flavour concentration. Key flavours include: baked apple, toast, pralines, citrus and butterscotch. This is a full bodied white wine with a buttery texture and a long mouthwatering finish. Enjoy pairing this "meal in a glass" with seafood chowder - be sure to get a recipe that does not skimp on the lobster or crab meat!
Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Caramel, honey, vanilla. Touch of smoke. Full bodied with a nice long finish. A fish in cream sauce would go well.

Cherie Cole rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This California Private Reserve Chardonnay is showing lots of layers on the aroma starting with smoky oak, moving into sweet toffee and pineapple. Medium-full body with a lingering finish of toffee and tropical fruit notes. Tasted November 29, 2015.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Pronounced nose of butterscotch, vanilla and a touch of smoke. Lots of tropical fruit and spice as well. Rich and buttery this can only be described as luscious. Good balance of fruit and acidity compliment the toasty flavours. Food pairings abound - anything creamy, roasted chicken and of course, lobster with drawn butter!
Trevor Sabourin - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Sweet red apple, grilled peaches and pineapples, and orange rind hide underneath smoky aromas of roasted almond, buttered popcorn, vanilla, coconut, and caramel. The sweet fruit comes out nicely on the palate, with all of that toasty oak complimenting and balancing it nicely. Full-bodied, with medium acidity and a round creamy mouthfeel. Long, smoky finish.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Pale yellow, an oaked Chard for sure with butterscotch, spices and toasty notes ahead of tropical pineapple and orchard fruit on the nose. Full bodied, lower acidity with a creamy mouthfeel and flavours repeating the nose as well as dried apricot and some flinty mineral notes. Long finish showing some bitterness with the 14.7% declared alcohol.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 82/100 with the following review:

I decent chardonnay, though you can find some just as good for cheaper.

Appearance: Pale yellow
Nose: Lychee, pineapple, vanilla, toasted oak.
Taste: Herbaceous, toasted oak. Definitely needs some food; it paired well with old cheddar and smoked cheese.
Finish: herbaceous, long finish.
Overall impression: For a reserve wine, I would expect more complexity. Still, it is a decent chardonnay.

Value: 1 out of 5
The grapes grow in the Oakville region in Napa. The wine is 100% barrel fermented and undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation for extra richness and creamy depth. - Community Wine Reviews
