Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From Averill Creek Estate Vineyards in the Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, Charme de L’ile (NV) is a sparkling wine blend made in the Prosecco-style, or Charmat method (second fermentation in tank prior to bottling) with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wine grapes. This cool-climate sparkler is charming with honeyed ripe pear, crisp apple, white peach, light savoury herbs and soft citrus zest flavours on the palate all wrapped up in a lively, vibrant mousse. So good! Excellent chilled on its own or to accompany seafood hors d'oeuvres.

Averill Creek was established in 2001 in Duncan, in the Cowichan Valley, by vintner Andy Johnson. All wines are produced from grapes grown on the 40-acre vineyard estate which include Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Maréchal Foch, Foch Cabernet, Cabernet Libre, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Along with the southern aspect of the vineyard, the valley is also perfect for growing cool-climate wine grapes as it enjoys long, dry summers and is typically several degrees warmer than the surrounding valleys. Averill Creek’s Charme de L’ile NV was awarded Gold at the 2018 National Wine Awards of Canada.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
