Reviews and Ratings

Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Fresh and youthful flavours of raspberries, black currant, violet, and warming spices complement the richness of the wine. With soft, ripe tannic structure, and intense flavours the finish of this wine is long and refreshing.
This wine can be enjoyed on its own and pairs best with charcuterie and casual fare from the grill ranging from chicken and pork through to your favourite grilled red meat including game.
Date tasted: April 2014
Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

One of the Fowles Wines used for Australia day, this shiraz has a beautiful full bouquet, and in body, is just a little bit less robust than their preeminent wine 'Ladies who Shoot Their Lunch'.

Definitely on the strawberry jam side.

Tasted April 8, '14 at the Fowles Wines tasting
Corinna Horton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Beautifully balanced, elegantly structured, the Are You Game Fowels Wine Shiraz 2012 is fruity, with just the right amount plumy, blackberry, richness. Pair with rabbit, pheasant, wild boar, a strong salty cheese or almost anything finished with butter, the balance of fruit would cut the fat and bring forward the flavour.
Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Are You Game Shiraz is a full bodied wine with some kick! Aromas of plum, cherry, spice, and chocolate. On the palate it features cherry, spice and vanilla. Tasted at the Australian High Commission Ottawa Fowles Wine Tasting on April 8, 2014 (89/100)
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Cherry, dark fruit, cocoa and spice flavors with a nice lingering finish.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

"Are You Game?" Shiraz, is Fowles value-priced cool climate Shiraz from mainland Australia's most southern and coolest state, Victoria.

The 'message in this bottle' is delicate fruit and herbs, in a lighter than usual style (for what many may believe a stereotypical 'Australian Shiraz' might taste like). Noticeably lighter than Fowles' higher-priced "Ladies who Shoot their Lunch" Shiraz. The cool climate influence is very evident as it produces a leaner, crisper, fresh style of Shiraz. Medium-long berry and herbal finish would pair well with grilled rosemary lamb chops or pork tenderloin.

Fowles' winemaker added 10% Tempranillo to this wine to 'add complexity and texture to the palate'.

Tasted April 8, 2014. 87+ points. Matt Steeves - @Quercusvino
