La Pieve's 2011 Barolo is full-bodied with layers of dried fruit, leather, rose, spice, tar. Complex and balanced, with great texture, this fine Barolo is drinking beautifully now and will show great over the next decade. Tasted January 2017. 92+ points. Matt Steeves - www.mattswinepicks.com

Barolos are coveted for their cellar potential and this wine should be no exception. However, the pale garnet colour and the essence of dried fruit aromas and flavours tells me that this wine is most probably peaking now. There's still a good amount of tannin and acidity but fruit is maturing. $35 a tough sell for "drink now" Barolo but still a nice glass of iconic Piedmont grape.

La Pieve Barolo 2011, Piedmont D.O.C.G., Italy: This full-bodied red wine offers enticing aromas of bitter dark fruit, tar, toasty and spice. Barolo wines are rarely priced this affordably, so give this this Piedmont, Nebbiolo-based grape wine a try. The tannins are huge and there will be plenty of fruit here to bring balance. A real gripper but I like it! Big, black with a tarry streak through the middle. Black cherry resistance and some dark spices. Perfect for black magic nights.
