Malivoire Wine Company Icewine Riesling 2009, Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: The 2009 vintage was terrific for Riesling in Niagara, both for the dry style and the dessert version here. Lovely fragrant aromas of apricots and honey on the nose and palate, with a great balancing acidity. Malivoire is masterful in most styles and it shows here. Miraval Rosé 2012, A.C., Côtes De Provence, France: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have just launched their first wine, a lovely, pink petal, bone-dry rose from Provence. The couple owns the winery and estate Château Miraval, even though you'll find no reference to them on the label. This wine doesn't need to ride on the back of their celebrity: it stands alone as a terrific, refreshing rose with aromas of small field strawberries, orange zest and light spices. Should I add though that there's a hint of drama on the nose, with a surprise twist finish? Sure to be a box office hit at your liquor store. Pair with planked salmon, pate, roast chicken, and of course, movie night. May I suggest Mr. and Mrs. Smith? Drink: 2013-2015. 342584 13% XD 750 mL $24.95 Score: 91/100. August 17, 2013

Jermann Pinot Grigio 2012, Venezia Giulia, Friuli I.G.T., Italy: This is one of the best, if not the best, Italian Pinot Grigios I've tasted. Sure, the price reflects that but it's worth seeing how vibrant and full of character Pinot Grigio can be with this benchmark wine. Zesty, refreshing and alive in the glass. Aromas of white peach, lime and white grapefruit. Incredibly refreshing and mouth-watering. Great as an aperitif or with many dishes, from seafood to salad. Great structure and finish. Says winemaker Silvio Jermann: "Wines should move us, prompt our emotions and have a sense of authenticity." Amen. Drink: 2013-2016. 117093 12.50% D 750 mL $37.95 Score: 93/100. March 15, 2014

Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red 2010, Napa, North Coast, California, United States: A cult cabernet from the heart of Napa Valley is concentrated, deep and delicious. Full-bodied with dark fruit and a long finish. Seductive mocha, dried herbs and blackberry on the nose, with incredibly well-crafted and sculpted texture and structure. This is truly a magnificent, and yes, worth the price. This is a wine for collectors and those who would like a promotion from their boss. Try it with rare filet mignon.
