Famiglia Bianchi Chardonnay 2013, San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina: Lovely, especially for the price! Rich and round with green apple aromas and a toasty goodness. The grapes for this Chardonnay were handpicked and then the wine was barrel-fermented for extra creaminess and texture. There's some golden lemon notes on the finish. Lots of toasty oak. Leaves you longing for more. Drink: 2013-2016. 1461 14% XD 750 mL $14.95 Score: 89/100. August 2, 2014

Zolo Fincas Patagonicas Torrontés 2013, Mendoza, Argentina: Trust me, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried Torrontes, the grape name of the aromatic white wine. This is a wonderful interpretation of peachy-floral splendor. Ignore the price as it’ll bias you because it’s so low. Torrontés is truly Argentina’s benchmark white wine: such a unique signature. Finishes with peach blossom and sunshine. Try it with mild curries or fresh seafood. Drink: 2014-2017. 183913 13.80% D 750 mL $13.95 Score: 90/100. August 2, 2014

Château Saint-Aubin Fernandez De Castro Meritage 2010, Médoc, Bordeaux A.C., France: Splendifourous! Especially for the bargain basement price for Bordeaux from a great vintage. I'm buying a case. You? Aromas of black fruit, tar and toasty oak. Layered, complex and a dark attitude. Decant 1-2 hours, but try cellaring it. Advice I won't take myself given tendencies to instant gratification. Drink: 2015-2020. 369389 13.50% XD 750 mL $23.95 Score: 91/100. May 24, 2014

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Riesling 2012, Mosel Q.B.A., Germany: Spectacularly concentrated flavours, yet not heavy and, bonus, is light in alcohol. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too when it comes to German Riesling. (Though pair this zesty white wine with dishes that have a touch of sweetness like glazed ham rather than dessert itself.) Glorious pleasure that could be three times the price! Ripe peach, apricot and pear with some zingy moth-watering action. Light and fresh… float away on its flavours. Drink: 2013-2019. 596601 10% MD 750 mL $13.95 Score: 91/100. July 19, 2014
