San Pedro 1865 Tayú Pinot Noir 2021, Buchahueico, Malleco Valley D.O., Chile: from Chile's Malleco Valley wine region, San Pedro 1865 Tayú 2021 is a smoky and juicy Pinot Noir, rich and ripe with fresh red berry fruit, earthy floral and spicy notes savoury and vibrant, fresh and long on the palate. Tannins are firm and pleasantly chewy for a Pinot Noir. The wine was fermented and aged in oak, cement, and stainless steel tanks. In Mapudungun, "Mapuche" means “people of the land”, "Tayu" means “Ours” and the making of this wine is based on their understanding of the grape based on a traditional approach. Grapes for this vintage were selected from four vineyards planted between 2015 and 2017, all in the Malleco zone. Tayú 1865 is the wine that San Pedro makes in collaboration with the Mapuche community of Buchahueico in the town of Purén. The Mapuche never cultivated vines or fermented grapes and the collaboration on this project was initiated in 2015. Drink: 2024-2029. 16628 13.50% XD 750 mL $23.95 Score: 94/100. September 21, 2024
