Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Colchagua Valley, Rapel Valley, Chile: Black fruit, tar and lots of toasty oak on this Chilean red wine. Full-bodied and smooth with more black fruit and oak on the palate. The 2011 vintage of the Maquis Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in oak barrels for 10 months. Decant for 1 hour and enjoy with prime rib. Drink: 2013-2017. 311720 13.50% XD 750 mL $24.00 Score: 87/100. February 7, 2015

Santa Rita Medalla Real Carmenere 2008, Colchagua Valley, Chile: Simply wow! One of the best Chilean carmeneres that I've tasted in a long time. Gorgeously luscious and rich, with wave after wave of black plum. Yet not heavy or flabby. Superbly balanced with the influence of the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains. Drink: 2010-2016. 392720 14% D 750 mL $19.95 Score: 91/100. June 22, 2012
