Castello Di Volpaia Citto Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, I.G.T., Tuscany, Italy: Vintages Wine Panel: Volpaia is one of Tuscany’s most recognized and respected producers. Their Citto is a blend of Sangiovese with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon to add depth to the flavours. The wine is unoaked, thus putting the fresh fruit aromas and flavours front and centre. Look for cherry, blackberry, cassis and a hint of underbrush on the nose. Even without the oak, it has exceptional structure that will even reward 2-4 years in a cellar. My note: Good grip in this wonderfully delicious full-bodied red. Aromas of tangy sun-dried tomatoes, cedar-spice, and red berries. Decant for 1 hour. 134817 14% XD 750 mL $14.95 Score: 89/100. Rioja Bordón Gran Reserva Bodegas Franco-Espanolas Tempranillo 2003, D.O.C.A., Rioja, Spain: Love that mature leather and tobacco flavour! Palate is more seductive than the nose. Age and wisdom have their benefits when it comes to wine as well. This is seductively smooth and complex; a contemplative wine. Full-bodied and elegant. Drink: 2012-2023. 12295 13% D 750 mL $22.95 Score: 91/100. April 14, 2012
