Henry of Pelham Reserve Baco Noir 2010, Niagara, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: I find baco noir a hard wine to love but Henry of Pelham does it right: this is best of class. Brooding aromas of black and purple plum, blackberries and blueberries wrapped in smoke. Supple and full-boided. Could this be the ultimate hamburger wine? Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Maipo Valley, Chile: This Chilean red wine has an intense and aromatic nose of mint and blackberry with plush fleshy plums on the palate. Nicely balanced with full-bodied goodness. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine are sourced from Santa Rita’s estate vineyard in Alto Jahuel. Great structure and a good grip on the palate. Seductive nose of black cherry and blackberry liqueur, anise underbrush, cedar. Aromatic, complex, layered and deep with a very long finish. Worth every penny. Try with hearty meat dishes.
