First Press Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Napa Valley, California, United States: Solid value for Napa Valley cabernet. Nicely balanced oak with smoke and cocoa-mocha aromas. Although it's robust, it's not heavy. Attractive wisps of hickory smoke on the finish along with cassis and blackcurrant. Decant 1-2 hours. Try it with grilled lamb. Drink: 2014-2019. 188110 14.50% D 750 mL $37.95 Score: 88/100. March 3, 2017

Paso Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Paso Robles, California, United States: Complex, balanced and structured: this Californian Cabernet offers lots of pleasure but also has great elegance and length on the finish. Aromas of dark fruit, spice and smoke. Layered and concentrated. The Paso Robles wine region is more southern than Napa Valley in the state of California, and so wines there ripen longer and develop terrific intensity. Pair with a rare filet mignon. Drink: 2018-2022. 161141 13.50% XD 750 mL $19.95 Score: 92/100. February 28, 2019
