San Pedro 1865 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Maipo Valley, Chile: Each of the wines from the 1865 portfolio is made from its own selected vineyard planted with the particular grape in mind. This gorgeous Chilean Cabernet is full-bodied with fleshy ripe blackberries. Lots of dark fruit flavour and a long satisfying finish. This Cabernet is planted in the winery's Alto Maipo vineyard planted 40 years ago with vines propagated by massal selection. Average summer high temperatures hover around 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The vines are in clay-loam soils in an alluvial terrace. Pair with hearty meat dishes. Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, California, United States: Sweet chocolate hits you on the nose first followed by smoky campfire aromas. The palate is round and supple with lots of sweet chocolate and mocha notes. Cannonball (on the label) represents freedom: the child with legs tucked up underneath him as he dives into the water. Lots of fleshy ripe black fruit here in this big Californian Cabernet. Full-bodied with some herbal notes. Lots of mocha, cocoa, cola, and smoke from generous oak aging.
