Fontanafredda Barolo 2013, Piedmont DOCG, Italy: Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy's first king, bought this winery in 1858 and started making wines. The estate today is now owned by entrepreneur Oscar Farinetti. This northern Italian red is surprisingly nimble and elegant for Barolo, which usually strikes a much deeper chord.
