Young Brute 2014, Wrattonbully, Australia: A juicy, robust, smooth Australian red wine blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produced by the Casella family. Loaded with flavours of fleshy ripe purple and black plums, blueberries and toasty oak (but not too muck). Mouth-watering and mouth-filling: this wine packs a punch without being overpowering, which is quite remarkable for a young brute. A terrific regional expression of Wrattonbully which experience a windy but dry spring followed by a hot summer in 2014 for tremendous depth of ripening and flavour. Mission Hill Family Estate Five Vineyards Cabernet Merlot 2012, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia BC VQA, Canada: Lots of mocha and dark chocolate on the nose and palate from extensive oak aging. Robust and tannic, needs some cellar time and an hour of decanting. This full-bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is sourced from five vineyards on the winery's estate. Gérard Bertrand Gris Blanc Rosé 2015, Pays D'oc, Midi I.G.P., France: A pale ballet slipper pink, almost crystalline transparency in the glass. This southern French rosé is made from Grenache Noir and Grenache Gris grapes, thus Gris Blanc (grey-white) are hand-picked in the Roussillon region located in Tautavel between the Mediterranean sea and the Pyrenees mountains. The wine is matured on the fine lees for several weeks before bottling. Lovely mouth-watering acidity for fresh seafood salads.
