Mayu Appassimento Gran Reserva Carmenère 2020, Elqui Valley D.O., Chile: From the Elqui Valley wine region, Mayu Gran Reserva 2020 is a great value Appassimento Carmenère. Grapes are left to hang an extra two months on the vine and are harvested in two tries; 40% in April with the balance of grapes harvested in June. The grapes lose about 35% of their moisture, become concentrated as in the Amarone process, but on the vine. The wine is matured in American oak barrels up to 10 months. Look for rich aromas of ripe black fruits, dried tobacco, with a juicy chocolate and coffee finish on the palate. Drink or hold to 2027.
