Smoky with dark fruit, toasty oak and dark chocolate aromas on the nose of this terrific Spanish red wine made from the country's classic Tempranillo grape. The winemaker is Alexandro Fernández of Pesquera renown. Full-bodied, smooth and brooding. Great for watching film noir as well as with hearty meat dishes.

Tempranillo food pairings: herbed steaks, chili, Papas con chorizo, lamb chops, smoked cheese, pan-seared venison.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This wine is just stunning. It has everything you want. It has everything you need. Featuring lots of black plum, smoke, dark chocolate, herbs, dried flowers, camphor, meat blood, melted licorice, and toast. This wine will last until at least 2030. 94 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This is a lovely smokey on the nose, with silky leather and tobacco on the palate Tempranillo. A hint of caramel on the finish. Beautiful balance of tannins, acid and alcohol. Great with prime rib or other robust meat. Tasted March 2018
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This 2008 Alejandro Fernandez Tempranillo pours with a lovely garnet red appearance. Aromas are complex, showing intense leather, milk chocolate, cocoa, licorice root, black plums, smoky/gamey notes. The palate smooth, mellow and balanced - acids are medium +, tannins are medium, alcohol is perfectly integrated, and the finish is long. Enjoy pairing this wine with paella, jambalaya or anything with chorizo. Tasted July 2016. @sommsosa | bespokestastings.ca
