Big, juicy and smoky with luscious black fruit through the core. Full-bodied and smooth. Staggeringly great price!

Primitivo food pairings: savoury first courses, red meat and game as well as mature cheese, maybe best with a wood fired savoury thin crust pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Ruby red in colour, this Zinfandel (aka primitivo) form Italy's 'boot heel' region Puglia has a very enticing bouquet. Red fruit, smoke, cedar, clove and spice come to the surface, and follow through on the palate. A very lovely wine, especially at ~$10, but just a little too much bitterness in the finish for my liking.
Would be great with tomato based pasta dishes, pizza, and for encouraging convivial wine tastings!
Sylvain Segard rated this wine as 80/100 with the following review:

This wine definitely requires a long breathing time. Little fruit. Slightly acidic. No depth of finish.
Gavin reviewed this wine as follows:

Great for $10
Sava soils are clay-grained with red hue due to the iron oxide content. With scarce available water the vines seek nourishment by sinking their roots several metres underground. This results into full bodied wines, very rich in aromas and minerals.
Well fruited on nose with plum, cherry, spice and vanilla scents. Full in mouth with soft structure throughout
