Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

A bold Italian red wine with a remarkable legacy! Jacopo Biondi-Santi is the great grandson of the "father of Brunello" himself, Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, and the son of famed Brunello producer, Franco Biondi-Santi. Traditions and philosophy run deep in this clan as their astute attention to their craft is well in tune with the quality of their wine. This 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is crafted from 100% sangiovese grosso grapes. It pours with a bright medium garnet appearance and shows pronounced aromas of dried figs, cherry, dark plum, violets and sage. The palate shows ripe cherry, plum, tobacco, dark chocolate and anise notes. This wine is dry with a rich mouthfeel, grippy (tannic) texture, mouthwatering acidity and a long finish. I recommend pairing this full bodied wine with game meat stews, particularly lamb or duck breast. Fats in your meal with contrast and tone down the grippy tannins very well. Tasted at Vancouver Wine Festival, February 2016.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
