Hickory smoke and campfire aromas on the nose and palate of this generous Californian Syrah. Savoury and juicy with dried herbs and black plums on the palate. Pair with grilled lamb. This winery has been producing wine since 1989. Vintages Wine Panel: Before turning to winemaking, Fess Parker was a popular actor best known as TV’s Daniel Boone and as the father in Disney’s Old Yeller. My note: Lovely black fruit and toasty oak notes.

Syrah food pairings: roast beef, roast chicken, grilled pork ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

John Masur WSET 3, Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Wonderfully deep and full-bodied wine with blackberries, dried herbs, and vanilla. Theres a slight peppery flavour on the mid-palate and its not as gamey as some Syrah typicity. This would pair well with beef and venison.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Easy to appreciate and utterly delicious. Santa Barbara is a cool-climate area in California, but really it is more of a warm region with significant cooling influences. This is noticeable with the intense ripeness seen on this Shiraz. It is concentrated and luxurious.
Deep, glass saturating ruby. Dark at the core.
It's sitting at around 15% alcohol, but it is still balanced. Aromas of black forest cake, cherry jam, cocoa, chicory, cofffee, and vanilla.
The flavours have lots of natural acidity and freshness, as a cool climate wine would have. Lots more cherry, bramble, and huckleberry pie filling. Vanilla, chocolate, and smoke too. Just an absolutely flavourful dynamo
Fess Parker was Daniel Boone on TV. That explains the coonskin hat on the bottle.
From Santa Barbara County, California, Fess Parker (2013) is made from 100% Syrah wine grapes sourced from this area. This is hardy red with dark and ripe, charry blackfruit, crushed red berries and toasty smoky oak notes. Pair with side of beef done rare. - Community Wine Reviews
