From Lirac, Rhône wine region, Château de Montfaucon Baron Louis 2018 is a richly layered red wine blend of 50% Grenache Noir, 15% Cinsault, 15% Syrah, 10% Carignan and 10% Mourvèdre wine grapes. Dry, full-bodied and juicy, the wine is spicy and savoury with dark plum, berry, toasty oak spice and vanilla flavours finishing long and satisfying on the palate. Grapes were hand-harvested and destemmed with 80% of the wine ageing up to two years in neutral French oak barriques. Beautifully-crafted, enjoy it through 2028. Château de Montfaucon is an 88-acre estate located across the Rhône River from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a U.C. Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking team at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Baron Louis was a seminal figure in the history of Montfaucon and restored the château on the estate in the 19th century.

Food pairings: meat-lover's pizza, roasted root vegetable stew, roast pork, sauteed beef tenderloin, rack of lamb.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
