From Puglia, sweet purple plums, dark spices on the palate on this full-bodied Coppi Peucetico 2013 Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) with dark chocolate on the nose and vanilla flavours on the finish from oak aging. Pair with gourmet burgers and all the fixings.

Primitivo food pairings: veal scaloppini in a sun-dried tomato sauce, salad, pasta.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Primitivo is the early ripening clone of Zinfandel. Dhis one always represents a terrific value, if you like big reds.
It is stylistically distinct from Zin, though. Zin harvests late and the cluster ripens at such an inconsistent rate it gets a much more exaggerated example of flavours associated with sugar ripeness (raisinated flavours).
Primitivo can have these, but expect this one to be more spicey and lighter fruit flavours, comparatively. Stewed plum, vanilla, chocolate, and fennel on the nose of this one. More spice forward; lots of that alsp coming from the oak.
More modest alcohol (just under 14%), it still retains a full body, but more acidity than the North American iteration.
This would be a great wine for burgers or pork loin. It could cellar, but no longer than three to five years.
Coppi Peucetico 2013 is a full-bodied Primitivo from the Puglia wine region and a great value red under $15. Look for dark plum and dark chocolate aromas on the nose with layers of juicy dark fruit, vanilla and sweet spice on the palate. -- very poised and refined and a modern style of Primitivo. Pair with a pasta Bolognese. - Community Wine Reviews
